3D Memory Palaces
What you see above is what developers call a "mock-up": A non-working demo of the form and function of a proposed system. In this case, an illustration supporting a Wishfarmers proposal to the MacArthur-supported "Digital Media Learning Competition" (DMLC) for an innovation we call "3D Memory Palaces". Memory Palaces are part of the "Method of Loci", a proven memory technique originally discovered by the ancient Greeks, and are used by every top memory expert in the world.3D Memory Palaces extend this technique, using a simulated 3D environment - something today's students are intimately familiar with from games. The project will result in a tool set for educators and students for creating and sharing 3D memory palaces for any number of study topics, and will include study routines such as the one shown in this "mock up".
The Proposal
The Wishfarmers/DMLC 3D Memory Palaces project would result the following:1. A functional, internet-accessible installation for public access
2. Features for users to create their own memory palaces
3. A re-usable memory palace tool set for educators
User would have access to a collection of environments in which to utilize the memory palace technique. From a library of objects, they would select something to represent each thing they need to remember. After placing these "memory tokens" in the environment, they will use a variety of study- and practice-routines to review and test their recollection. They will also be able to save, reload and share their memory palaces with others!

The Experts in 3D and Virtual Worlds
The Wishfarmers have delivered advanced, creative 3D solutions for education, commerce and entertainment since 2005. We have the technical and creative expertise, and first-hand experience necessary to realize true innovation in these emerging "virtual worlds".Our Philosophy of Innovation
The proliferation of "immersive" 3D technologies represent as profound a shift in engagement as the introduction of television. This is an opportunity: To make interaction, communication and expression "human" again. To open the doors to creativity and direct, "personal" experiences - even when designed for millions of people. And we will not let this opportunity be wasted.
